Can you describe your role within your organization?
World Space Week is the largest space event on Earth, celebrated with over 11,000 events just in 2022. As the Operations and Communications Manager, my job is to make sure this cosmic puzzle comes together well and is communicated effectively. Next to day-to-day operations of the association, I ideate and execute on the creative direction of the communication, coordinate the international distribution of our creative assets, and update our website and social media channels regularly. I validate each of the events organized globally, work closely with our National Coordinators and individuals planning their events, and compile our annual report.
How did you end up in space with your study/work background?
Growing up, my dream was to become an astronaut. But as I got older, I kind of bought into the idea that space was off-limits unless you were a rocket scientist or tech guru. That all changed when I saw an opening at the World Space Week Association for an Operations Manager. My degrees in Media Communications and Management seemed like the perfect match. The cherry on top? Working in a role that mirrors my own globally nomadic life - I now get to interact with space enthusiasts worldwide, no matter which part of the world I find myself in!
What is the most fun in your job?
It's the people. Being the contact point for a diverse, global community of space enthusiasts is a role I cherish. Whether I'm supporting someone's World Space Week event or learning about unique cultural nuances, it's both rewarding and fun. Another exciting aspect of my job is my ongoing exploration with AI. Be it crafting eye-catching designs for our social media platforms or optimizing our messaging for various situations, the blend of creativity and technology is always exciting.
