How did you end up in space with your study/work background?
I have a marketing background with a scientific basis. I started in the veterinary medical sector, then worked in product database management for B2B. Later I moved from No-Code to working in the space sector. You can say I work a lot with data! In fact, except the sector nothing changes when working with data, it's always a question of putting in order thousands of lines of excel files, avoiding errors and centralizing all this to give faster access to information. In the space sector the approach is called MBSE: model based system engineering. I understand the problem more quickly and above all, coming from different sectors before allows me to have a vision broader than just the space industry. That helps me to popularize and provide solutions in this sector. Nitrexo answers this demand with a product called the Digital Engineer.
How do you interact with the engineering side of the space organization you work for?
The company I work for, Nitrexo, assists engineers in the design of satellites and launch vehicle parts. As the head of marketing I make sure to closely observe the feedback coming from engineers and more general from space companies. We know that there is a gap between the knowledge acquired in school and the world of work. While working though, specific knowledge has to be acquired quickly and also has to be updated. By understanding the demands of the market, the demands of the engineering students and also the possibilities of new technologies, we are able to adapt and to have an engineering vision as well as an educational, commercial one.
What advice would you give fellow non-tech space enthusiasts if they want to pursue a job in space?
For me, marketing is a non-sector-specific job. That's why I love my job! In my various life experiences, I have seen that working environments can be fragmented: teams don't talk to each other despite open spaces for example. However, a change is starting to appear. The more different professions work together in the same community, the more you will have a stronger team cohesion and, above all, different points of view on an issue. I see this happening in space as well. Having different types of engineers and non-tech professionals working together allows you to follow the product cycle from the beginning and also allows everyone to find their own solutions and to advance the company's expertise.
