Can describe how your job requires multidisciplinary skills?

I am a medical doctor by profession, but currently I am working as the executive Director of a non-profit (ICAD - International Centre for Astronautical Development). For this role I needed to expand my knowledge on the operational aspects of a non-profit, the legal aspects, management styles, business development, web development, PR and social media management. I initially tried to take it all on my own shoulders, but realised it's better to have experts in each aspect working alongside me. So I recruited a multidisciplinary team.

How did you get in contact with the field of space and your discipline?

I started quite late in life but I was lucky enough to stumble on SGAC (Space Generation Advisory Council). Once I was plugged into the space network, I discovered so many other opportunities and just dived head first into everything I could.

What advice would you give fellow non-tech space enthusiasts if they want to pursue a job in space?

Just get involved - Attend courses and conferences, network, sign up for newsletters of companies you are interested in. The more plugged in you are, the more likely you are to find out about opportunities. Volunteering is also a good way to get yourself known, and to show your skills and work ethic - so that you already have relevant references when you apply for your dream job.
