What advice would you give non-tech space enthusiasts?

Always remember that in space, there is space for everyone. And that the space sector needs not only tech specialists and engineers but also various non-tech experts and specialists. Space is the horizontal sector (non-vertical), which covers all other sectors of the economy as space data and technology usage is everywhere and it will transform other sectors like e.g. energy or tourism when we will go to the Moon for good. If you always have that in mind, you will start thinking about your path into the sector. This is how I did it, from studying history to establishing the world's first global communications network for the space sector and running the international rover challenge for the next generation of scientists and engineers.

How did you end up in space with your study/work background?

The answer is simple, passion. My study background had almost nothing to do with the space sector. But I decided to change it. I was stubborn about changing my MA thesis. I won the internal campaign so that historians at my university allowed me to work on space exploration (which in 2003-2008 was the first such a thesis in my country). But prior to that, I found an interesting group of people from The Mars Society organization and helped them, volunteery, to work on promotion and education. Thanks to this, I got as a step closer to the space sector and decided to work more on that so that one day my passion would become my daily job. Now I work in the communication of space companies and institutions, and I would say that this is the best job in the world.

What advice would you give fellow non-tech space enthusiasts if they want to pursue a job in space?

First, be humble and patient as these are starting to be unique skills nowadays. In the space, experience is very needed. It's a very responsible job; you need to work step by step to gather expertise and build your network of professionals that will help you foster your career. Second, find places like our European Rover Challenge project, where you can always join (as a team member, viewer, volunteer, or conference participant) and find some like-minded people. As there is a perfect saying, "if I cannot do it, together we can." The space sector is team work in most cases. So like in RPG games, before you go for the journey, build up your team.
